SOLUTRANS

SOLUTRANS 2010:
Demonstrations of EMS and Electric Vehicles

At the Eurexpo in Lyon from 2 to 6 March, Solutrans will be presenting a range of solutions for optimising the logistics chain, involving in particular energy economisation and the reduction of environmental impact. This dual objective is met by two very different but equally effective approaches – EMS on the major routes and electric vehicles in urban and suburban areas.  There will be on-site demonstrations.

The EMS demonstrations
The main aim of the EMS (European Modular System) is to reduce both polluting emissions and fuel consumption (by 15% per km/tonne) by optimising loads and volumes. But it also claims to offer improved safety with better dynamic behaviour and greater stability when braking. Handling a 25.25 m vehicle combination is a matter to arouse a good deal of curiosity, which can be satisfied at Solutrans!

Solutrans is organising demonstrations of EMS combinations in partnership with Volvo Trucks and PKM. Three workshops are proposed: coupling and uncoupling, roundabouts and slalom. Times: Tuesday to Friday, 10.00 am to 12.00 pm and 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm at the EMS demonstration zone, outside Hall 66.

In parallel to this there will be two conferences at the trade fair:
Tuesday 2 March, 4.00 pm: The EMS in our neighbouring Netherlands
Thursday 4 March, 2.30 pm: The experiences of a haulage contractor, feedback from PKM.

Demonstrations of electric vehicles
Relaunched in the light of “peak oil”, petrol prices and a general desire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the benefits of electric motors have always been appreciated in the UK where the famous milk trucks still carry out their early-morning deliveries efficiently and in perfect silence. The range of electric utility vehicles made by British company Modec, distributed in France by ElecTruckCity, will be presented at Solutrans in various designs, shapes and sizes. Offering a two tonne payload, the Modecs all have lithium-ion phosphate batteries and have an effective range of 100 to 150 km with a top speed of 80 km/h, which is generally sufficient for carrying out rounds from logistics platforms in suburban locations.

The Ardèche company Volteis will also be at Solutrans presenting its Volteis X4, which claims to be “the first approved electric 4x4 in Europe”. This little vehicle, with a stainless steel chassis and aluminium body, is characterised by its timeless design, its incredible ease of use, its modular design and its very low cost per kilometre. The embedded electronics offer complete, permanent control of all the components of the traction chain (energy storage, control, motorisation, information and use history).

To see the demonstrations, visit the exhibitors’ stands:
ElecTruckCity: Stand 66 J 85 (Hall 66)
Volteis: Stand 66 L 92 (Hall 66)

For more information on the participants, the list of exhibitors is regularly updated and can be seen on the website www.solutrans.fr.
