An open letter from Renaud Hamaide, President of Comexposium, regarding events and the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19)

Paris, 27 February 2020

Comexposium prides itself on creating connections. Our aim is to be seen as the place to be, building bridges between people and business.

In light of the spread of COVID-19, coronavirus disease 2019, Comexposium, along with the entire exhibition industry, has been closely considering how we can maintain our aim, to create connections, by bringing people together.

We understand the importance of face-to-face exhibitions as community gatherings, and that they represent significant time and spend on the part of exhibitors and visitors. We are trying to do everything within our control to ensure we continue to deliver valuable events to our customers throughout the world.

However, we also have a duty to do everything possible to maintain health and safety. It’s a delicate balance.

The question of “what’s the best course of action?” seems to change daily. However, our role is clear. It’s to serve our industry communities, across sectors and geographies.

Therefore, we have implemented the same methodology we always do when faced with a question. We’ve listened to the feedback of our customers. In the majority of instances, our exhibitions will continue as planned. The communities have a strong desire to meet and do business and health and safety risks are not an impediment to gathering.

In other instances, we will be putting postponement plans in place, as our customers have told us that’s what is best for them.

As COVID-19 runs its course, we will remain vigilant, although optimistic, and agile when and where necessary. We aim to continue doing the same thing we’ve been doing since the first Foire de Paris opened in 1904, bringing people together to create connections.
